Tomoko was a student, making movies. Eriko was also student, drawing pictures, playing synthesizer in a band.

In winter of 2002, Tomoko met Eriko for the first time, asking for the title lettering of Tomoko’s new film, and started going to see the band called “Jon no son” which Eriko belongs to.

They became the best pals because of the closeness in age, their shyness and honestness, and especially how they love and fear making art.

Influenced by each other, Tomoko started practicing music instrument (hitting glasses at first), and Eriko tried making a movie on her own.

Their first co-production was a short film, and it surprised all of their friends, because of winning the silver prize in the competition of Chofu independent film festival.

In the process, making the soundtrack was the best part for them. They continued to make songs together, and started playing them in concerts. Happa no uragawa sisters were formed that way.

Enthusiastically loved by local strange music fans, they have been making subtly beautiful atmosphere and breaking it into zero in their live performances.

Their second recording “shrimp soup goku-goku case file” was quietly released in winter of 2015.

There you might find tiny eccentricity of the time they spent together, or their distorted persue for those fogbound melodies in this simple guitars-drums song album.

古賀は学生で、映画を撮っていました。吉川も学生で、絵を描き、バンドでシンセサイザーを弾いていました。

2002年の冬、古賀は製作していた映画の題字を依頼した事がきっかけで吉川と知り合い、吉川のやっているバンドを見に行くようになりました。

年齢が近く、引っ込み思案で真面目で批判的な性格も似ていて、何よりも芸術を愛し畏れる姿勢がそっくりだった二人はすぐにお互い影響し合い、意地を張り合うようになりました。

古賀はギターとドラムの練習を始め、吉川は映画に挑戦しました。

2人の最初の合作は映画でした。それは調布映画祭の自主映画コンペで銀メダルを取り、周囲を驚かせました。

そのサウンドトラック作りなどから、2人で音楽もやれそうだという事がわかり、稀にライブにも出演する様になりました。葉っぱの裏側シスターズです。

登場し演奏するたびになんとも言えない雰囲気を作っては壊し、変な音楽好きに熱狂的に愛されながら、裏では喧嘩と和解を繰り返してきました。

1作目からの10年間で曲を書きためて、2015年の終わりに彼女達が発表した2作目のアルバムが『海老汁ゴクゴク事件簿』です。

ギターとドラムによるシンプルな構成が、2人で過ごした時間の奇妙さと、閉ざされたメロディーと歌へのどうしようもないこだわりを際立たせています。

Eriko Yoshikawa and Tomoko Koga, something secret that has been protected between these ladies was thrown here without fear and we can hear it. Their sound is open and bare, the imperfections are finely and beautifully perfected. There is no room for anyone else here, and no decorative sounds are necessary at all, forever.

It is worth to mention that Eriko and Tomoko are also members of a band called 'John no Son' and making them shine, but we will note about it later on.



吉川英理子と古賀朋子、この二人の間で守られてきた秘密の何かは、ここに怖れなく投げ出されて、私たちは聴くことが出来ます。彼女たちの音は奔放で剥き出しで、不完全さは緻密に美しく完成していて、ここに他の誰かの入る余地はありませんし、装飾的な音なども全く必要ではありません、永遠に。

そんな彼女たちが ‘ジョンのサン’ というバンドのメンバーでもあり、輝かせていることはとても興味深いです、が、それはまたのちに。
