TRACKS
Gofish's long-awaited new album Rinko opens with “Kita-kaze to taiyo” (North Wind and the Sun), where Shota Terai’s fingers can be heard dancing across the fretboard in a light bossa nova rhythm. Makoto Inada and Seijiro Kuroda join again on the contrabass and cello, respectively. In addition, Lang Lee traveled from Seoul to contribute her voice on three songs, adding depth and vividness to Inada and Kuroda’s chorus work—perfectly fitting for the title “Rinko,” meaning "phosphorescence” in Japanese. Despite Rinko being Gofish’s fifth release, Terai’s songwriting somehow manages to always present something fresh and surprising with a gift for surreal lyricism. Rinko includes the song “Hai” (Lung) in its unabridged 7-minute form, which has been a fan favorite at live sets but had never been released in full form due to time constraints. Shinichi Tsukamoto of Amephon’s attc also makes a contribution in “Hirotta hane” (A Feather Picked Up). Some undertaking in an almost punk-folk aesthetic can be heard in tracks such as “Piano no mawari” (Around the Piano). The album closes with a live version of “Tsuki no toriko” (Captivated by the Moon) for a delightfully strange soft landing.
