A dear friend, Dominique, recently did research on fig wasps and created a documentary to present their findings. After a conversation in which they described to me their research, I was intrigued. I wrote “fig tree” in the wake of their words. I was picturing myself exploring a small grove in the evening, watching the tiny insects go about their lives as the sun begins to set and the moths start to appear.
A few weeks later, this dear friend asked me to to compose some music for their documentary. It was my first time attempting to score a film like this and I was excited to try my best. My tiny guitar was tuned to Bb, G, C, F, A, D, the same tuning as “fig tree.” These are a few excerpts from the soundtrack.
