MEMORIES

Released in 2015, this YODO album is said to be the first work in 17 years since its formation in 1998, and it is still a mysterious sound. Tthe organ flow in a muddy atmosphere. Where are the many members? The psychedelic feeling that the best pops suddenly appear as you follow the song. The treasure, which they/we finally found after many rejections and difficulties, is really dear.

2015年にリリースされた、YODOのこのアルバムは、1998年の結成以降、17年目にして初めての作品だというが、いまだ謎の多く秘められたサウンドである。もやもやとした中にうっすらと流れるオルガン、多くのメンバーはどこにいるのだろう？曲を追っていくと、急に極上のポップスが現れる、このサイケ感。多くの拒絶と困難の後にようやく見つけた自分だけの宝物、それは本当に愛しいのです。

Formed in 1998. Since three other members had left the band, Tokuhiro Kuroyanagi quietly continued YODO as his solo project.

In Nagoya local music scene, he met some people who were found to be modest and curious like himself, and had a same pure appetite for adventure as he did. Behind Kuroyanagi's vacant absent-minded behavior, his new friends saw a tiny fire of enthusiasm shaking faintly inside him and never going out. 

They started to help Kuroyanagi for playing music together and recording 'MEMORIES', YODO's first album, in his house studio where is full of vintage sound equipments.

In the afternoon of September 20,2015, Kuroyanagi carelessly dropped his favorite amplifier on his own big toe and taken to the hospital while he was setting the commemoration concert for the album. 

8 hours later, he just made it in time of rental permission to come back to the venue after surgery.

A few people of the town still talk about this heroic show which YODO beautifully carried out that night.

1998年に結成するが、数年後に畔柳徳宏以外の3人のメンバーが脱退。

畔柳は1人で静かに活動を続けながらライブ会場などに出入りする中で、自分と同じように寡黙で、物好きで、純粋な冒険心を持つ友人たちと知り合った。

彼らは、畔柳のとぼけた表情の奥に小さな熱狂の火がおぼつかず揺れていて、それが決して消えないのを察し、力を合わせるようになる。レア機材の宝庫になっている畔柳家に夜な夜な集まってはYODOの最初のアルバムとなる「MEMORIES」を製作した。

写真家の三ツ矢剛は、このレコードの発表に合わせ、畔柳のこれまでの人生を題材とした膨大な一人展「MEMORIES」を名古屋市東区の市民ホールで開催した。

そしてその展示期間内で、このアルバムの発売日でもある2015年9月20日の午後、同ホールで行う記念コンサートの準備に取り掛かった畔柳は、お気に入りのアンプを車から降ろす際に足の親指に落としてしまい病院へ搬送された。手術後、ホールレンタル時間ぎりぎりで戻った車いす姿の畔柳と彼の仲間たちが見せた数分間の演奏は今も語り草になっている。
