Kumo

I woke up in the morning and found that the sea I could see through the window looked like a continent of pure white ice. Since a typhoon was to pass by, I had to stay in a house in a small village by the sea that day. The next morning, I woke up and stared at the Sea of Japan raging and bubbling white to the horizon ignoring that it was summer, that there was a typhoon and that I fell in sleep just by the Sea. It was my drowsy head that took me a while to realize that it wasn't a continent of pure white ice. Thick wind shook the house, but no evacuation advisory was issued yet so I went downstairs where I found an old lady who had been lived alone in the house preparing breakfast in a dimly bright kitchen. Finding me surprising at the miso soup of sea urchin, potatoes and onions which was not familiar to me, she told me that it is standard there adding that it’s not standard that a typhoon passes by this close, pouring me a meal. 朝目を覚ましたら窓の外の海が真っ白い氷の大陸のようになっていました。台風がすぐそばを通り過ぎるというので、私は海沿いの小さな村の一軒家に1日滞在することになりました。朝目を覚ましたら、私は季節が夏だということ、台風のこと、海のそばで眠ったことも忘れて、荒れに荒れて水平線まで真っ白く泡立つ日本海を眺めました。寝ぼけた頭がそれは氷の大陸ではないと気がつくまで、少しだけ時間がかかりました。分厚い風がぶんと家を揺らしましたがまだ避難勧告は出ておらず、下の階に降りると、その家に一人で暮らしているおばあさんがぼんやり明るい台所で朝食の準備をしてくれていました。ウニとじゃがいもと玉ねぎのお味噌汁をめずらしいと驚く私に、おばあさんはこれはここでは定番のお味噌汁だと言った後に、台風がこんなにすぐそばを通ることのほうがもっとめずらしいことなのだと言って、私にご飯をよそってくれました。2004年の思い出です。(Ksayaka)
