Summer Dream

My SD card broke while I was working on it. At first I was super nervous because I thought my recorder was broken, but either way, I suffered deep emotional damage. There were 44 songs on the SD card that I was working on, and when I tell people about it, they usually say, “Didn't you make a backup?” 

I feel annoyed. I'm not in the habit of backing up my work-in-progress. I might do so if the job is worth 1 million yen per song or something.

The card was Vol. 10. 1 to 5 or so were published together once. By the way, I don't have backups, but I have 2 mixes of almost every song. I do rough mixes even when I'm in the process of making them. Some of you may not understand what I am talking about. In other words, I can't do a new overdub or re-mix. In short, if you force yourself to complete the work, the mental damage will be lessened.

It's better to release the songs that have accumulated. Some of them are really embarrassing. Just listening to them makes my dizzy. What the hell was I trying to do? I was just trying to figure out what the hell I was going to do. My temporary confusion was gone.

I can force overdubbing on a ready-made sound source. I don't know why I don't do it often, but I can change the length of a song, and I can rearrange the structure of a song, A and B. I've done this a little. I did this a little.

The songs I've collected here are mostly from the last couple of years in which there were a lot of things like the end of Corona, the Tokyo governor election, and I'm getting into manga. I'm not sure of the influences I'm listening to, but..,

Billy Eilish said, “You should put out everything you make. You never know who will like what you make." I wonder if it is true, does she put out everything she makes?

Time flies when I'm thinking about doing something and I don't get around to it. I wonder how many projects I have in my life that I've almost forgotten about in the process of being done. I can't count them because I've forgotten them,

If you do live shows, you will have more songs. In the last few years, I've been asked to do many different types of things, so I have a variety of songs. The field recording I've been getting into lately hasn't been utilized here yet. There are a few. But which one is from card number 11.

I have started to put the cards in plastic cases or Ziplocs. I wonder if static electricity is the main cause, or moisture? I forgot that they are supposed to be very sensitive.

I enjoy home recording the most. The fire of shock and excitement I felt when I got my first cassette MTR is still burning. It's not enough to burn me out, though.

I chose this title because it somehow smells like summer, but maybe that's just because it's hot right now.

作業中にSDカードが壊れた、最初はレコーダーが壊れたかと思って超ビビったけど、どっちにしろ深い心的ダメージを負った。作りかけが44曲入っていた、、、この話をすると大体みんな「バックアップはとってなかったのか？」と言う。なんかイラッとする。作りかけのものをマメにバックアップとる習慣はない、。おそらくこれからも、、、こう言うことがあっても作りかけでバックアップは取らないだろう。1曲100万円とかの仕事なら取るかもしれない。

カードはVol.10だった。1から5ぐらいまでは一度まとめて発表している。ちなみにバックアップは取ってないけど、ほぼ全ての曲の2ミックスはある。作りかけでもラフミックスはしてるのだ。何を言っているのか分からない人もいるかもしれない。つまり、新しくオーバーダビングするとかミックスやり直すとかができないのだ。要するに無理矢理完成ということにすれば心的ダメージも少なくなる、はず。

溜まった曲は一度出したほうがいいのだ。中には本当に恥ずかしいやつもある。聴いてるだけで頭がクラクラする。俺は一体何をしようとしてたのだ？、みたいな。一時の気の迷いも、その地点で決定されてしまった。

できている音源に無理矢理オーバーダビングはできる。なぜかあまりやらないけど、、、曲の長さを変えることはできるし、曲の構成、AとBを組み替えることもできる。これは少しやった。

ここに集めた曲は大体ここ2、3年のもので、コロナ明けとか都議選とか漫画にハマったとか色々あった。聴いていても影響はよく分からないけど、、、

ビリーアイリッシュは、「作ったものは全部出したほうがいい。誰が何を気にいるか分からないから」と言っていた。本当だろうか、彼女は作ったものを全部出しているのだろうか？

やろうやろうと思っていて、ぐずぐずしてると時はあっという間に過ぎていくものだ。やりかけ途中でほぼ忘れ去られたプロジェクトが人生にいくつあるのだろうか。忘れてるから数えれないけど、、、

ライブをやれば曲が増える。ここ数年は色んなタイプのことを依頼されるので、曲の種類も色々になった。最近今更ハマってるフィールド録音はここにはまだ生かされてない。ちょっとだけある。でもどれはカード番号11からのものだ。

剥き出しでぽいぽいほったらかしていたカードをプラスチックのケースかジップロックに入れるようにはなった。やっぱ静電気が一番の原因なのかな、あとは湿気とか？本来かなり繊細なものなはずだ、忘れてた。

自分は宅録が一番楽しい。初めてカセットのMTRを手にした時の衝撃と興奮の炎はまだ燃えているのだ。この身を焼き尽くすほどではないけど。

何となく夏の香りがするから、このタイトルにしたけど、単に今が暑いからなだけかもしれない。
